Unexpected Stressors as a Result of the Sun

Coronal Mass Ejections

Fun fact, NASA recently announced the biggest solar flare in almost a decade was just ejected from the sun.  How does this matter to you other then perhaps being interesting?

Science has proven that solar and geomagnetic activity affects Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV is the change in the time intervals between adjacent heartbeats. It is important to measuring how resilient someone is to stress.  If you have lower HRV, you will be more susceptible to stress.  If you have high HRV, you have increased ability to handle stressors.  HRV, is directly related to the body’s inherent self-regulatory systems and ultimately, their efficiency and health.  “An optimal level of HRV within an organism reflects health function and an inherent self regulatory capacity adaptability or resilience,”  -McCraty and Shaffer.

There are a lot of things that effect HRV, and solar activity is just one.  Knowing this, be sure to take extra good self care!  Drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest, eat healthy meals, and go a little easier on yourself.

The Grass is not Always Greener… (On the Other Side)

Do you ever find yourself gazing at the people across the street from you (or at photos of "Friends" on social media!) and think to yourself: “They have it all together. Perfect kids, a nice spouse, a beautiful home, and a comfortable living. Everything seems perfect!" Guess what? You're wrong! The reality, most often, is not what you think!

Despite outward appearances, most people are not fully happy and thriving in their life, no matter how bright and shiny it looks from the outside. Everybody has a "cross to bear”.  For your own sake, and for your wellbeing… please stop comparing your “inside life” with perception of the life that other people appear to be leading from the outside!

Most people have some point or area in their life where they are stuck or struggling. Many people struggle with weight and proper nutrition; sometimes it is just the last 5 or 10 pounds. Frequently, addiction to substances and destructive behaviors stand in the way of fully enjoying and being present in life. Even elite athletes can be challenged to break their personal record (PR).  And while parenting is an immense joy, it can also bring challenges; especially if a child has special needs.

So, real life, is a great equalizer, and even with all my skills, I am not immune to judging myself much harsher then I would judge anyone else – even, a stranger.  Self-compassion is needed, no matter the struggle, and in these cases, moving beyond the challenge is a process to learn and practice to be applied.  There are no quick fixes (at least none that will last), and the proverbial “it gets worse, before it gets better”, might be the feeling that you need in the quest to experience true personal-growth.

While this ideal may be daunting, I know that you can learn to “suffer well” (sounds like an oxymoron, but it’s not!) and I know that it’s possible to quickly find the calm in an emotional storm.  This can be done, in part, by focusing on positive emotions, engagement, improved relationships and interpersonal communications, and spending time participating on a purpose beyond yourself.

Even just the act of writing down your thoughts, setting some goals and measurable milestones (baby steps are fine!), can begin the sea-change that you need to live a happier life. Start small, e.g. - make your bed in the morning, take a walk outside, read for 15 minutes, dance around your kitchen to your favorite music… Digging out autonomous heartfelt motivation and life force, and pouring that motivational energy into getting better, improving competence and confidence:  is a recipe for thriving while changing every day.

If you would like to learn how techniques based in scientific research with a skilled coach will teach you to THRIVE, I am here to help. Together on this journey, we will generate the fulfillment and positivity that you truly deserve.  Coaching can improve and assist in breaking through your stuck point!
